Transition from receiving other benefits to receiving an old age pension

Recipients of general disability pension and income support

Recipients of a general disability pension and recipients of an income support benefit will receive the general disability pension or the income support benefit until retirement age. Once they reach retirement age, they will begin to receive the old age pension only.

Those who received a general disability pension until retirement age - will receive an old age-pension that is no less than the last monthly disability pension they have received. If the amount of the old-age pension (with increment for a spouse) exceeds that of the disability pension - they will be entitled to an increment of income supplement to the old-age pension.

Those who received an income support benefit - will be able to receive it until retirement age only, but may be eligible for an increment of income supplement to the old-age pension.

Recipients of an unemployment benefit, both men and women

They will receive the unemployment benefit until the retirement age determined for men - 67 years old, and from that age they will be entitled to an old-age pension only.

Recipient of a survivors' pension also entitled to an old-age pension, or recipient of an old-age pension also entitled to a survivors' pension

This person will receive benefits as follows:

  • A person who has accumulated a period of insurance (qualifying period) in accordance with the law will be entitled to a full old-age pension and half of a survivors pension.
  • A person who has not accumulated an insurance period, but is covered with old-age insurance, will receive a full survivors pension.
Once their insurance period has ended, they will receive a full old-age pension and half of a survivors pension.
  • A housewife receiving an old-age pension is not entitled to half of a survivors pension, but at age 70, she may choose between an old-age pension and a survivors pension.
  • A new immigrant and their spouse who immigrated to Israel after the established age (62 for men and retirement age for women) and the pension recipient dies - the spouse will continue to receive a special old-age benefit (for an individual) or a survivors pension.
  • An immigrant who immigrated to Israel after the age of 62 and whose spouse immigrated to Israel before retirement age and who dies - their widow will receive, subject to eligibility requirements, a special survivors pension until retirement age.
At retirement age, a review will be conducted to determine whether she is entitled to an old-age pension instead of a special survivors pension.
